Phoenix Theatre

The Phoenix is our home in the North Bay. It is a skatepark, it is a skate shop, it is a hangout spot, and it is a punk venue. We absolutely love bringing Rocky to that community.

We generally have a couple of shows there in October and one in spring, so do not miss us when we come to town.

State Theatre (Modesto)

The State has become our annual tradition of hopping in our cars and bringing the show to the Central Valley.

The State has been a great host to us and gladly invites us to throw toilet paper and get undressed in their gigantic theater.

    What to Wear

People ask us what to wear to Rocky, and we always just say: wear what you want.

Dress to impress, or don't. Wear your pajamas. Dress up as your favorite character. Dress in something se*xy. Wear what you want. Just wear something.

    Don't Dream It, Be It

    History of Cast

BL was formed in Berkeley in 1995 after the legendary weekly shadow cast Indecent ExposureIndecent Exposure logo called it quits. BL was created to fill that major hole in the Berkeley community and continue Rocky Horror at the UC.

Unfortunately, the original UC Theatre closed in 2001, but BL continued to perform in the meantime, calling the New Parkway (Oakland), Camera 3/3Below (San Jose), and the Albany Twin our homes for many years. They have all since closed. Make of that what you will.

We have seasonally called the Phoenix Theatre in Petaluma our home away from home after resident cast Absolute Pleasure dissolved.
Over the years we have taken our show all over the Bay Area and greater Northern California.

But our home and heart were always in Berkeley, and in 2016, when the UC Theatre reopened as a live entertainment venue, we were delighted to bring the show back home. You can catch us there for what have become annual traditions around Valentine's Day and Halloween.

    Our Vision

At BL, we strive to create a fun, safe, sexy, sleek, screen-accurate experience.

Rocky Horror is a cult, queer, coming-of-age experience, c*mming at all ages, whether you have been seeing us for years, it is your first time, or it is your hundredth. We want you to participate in the experience: yell s*itshit at the movie, throw s*itthings in the theater, heckle us when we mess up. It is all part of the experience, and we are all part of it together.

    Rules

Yeah, fuck them, but they are important.

Rule 1: No fire in the theater. No open flames. Use your phone or a glow stick. It is 2026.

Rule 2: Do not throw things at the cast or the screen. Throw them up and back .

Rule 3: Consent is sexy. Consent is groovy. Consent is mandatory. Do not touch anyone without their consent. Period.

Rule 69: You must Time Warpm*therfuckin Time Warp!

    What Is a Shadow Cast?

Shadow casting has been a Rocky Horror tradition since the late '70s. It is the natural marriage of theater and film.

While it is not exclusive to Rocky Horror, Rocky takes a whole lot of credit for the origin and made it a staple of screenings. We stand in front of the screen and act out the entire movie, in full costume, with props. We try our best, or our worst, to be Screen Accurate.

    Virgin Sacrifice

It is a tradition at Rocky to sacrifice a virgin or two. Or ten. If you have never seen The Rocky Horror Picture Show in a theater with a live cast, then you are a Rocky virgin.

You may be asked to comecum onstage and be recognizedHumiliated in front of your peers. It is all part of the fun, and you only get to do it once.
